Step into the world of Special Effects Makeup with Kryolan and learn how to create realistic cuts, scratches, bruises, wounds and burns using professional SFX products.
Led by Kyara, this hands-on workshop introduces you to the essential techniques behind creating convincing injury effects for photography, film, television, theatre, content creation and creative make-up.
You’ll learn how to prepare the skin, select the right products and tools, build realistic texture and dimension, and use colour and blood placement to bring your SFX looks to life.
From fresh cuts and realistic scratches to bruises, burns and open wounds, this workshop is designed to give you practical techniques that you can continue experimenting with beyond the day.

Skin Preparation & SFX Materials
Begin with the foundations of professional SFX application, including skin preparation, hygiene, product selection and tool choice.

Learn how to create raised cuts and scratches with realistic depth and texture. You’ll explore how to build the injury, add colour and finish the effect with convincing blood placement.

Discover how colour theory can transform a simple make-up application into a realistic bruise. Learn how to recreate the different stages of bruising, from fresh injuries through to healing bruises, using layering, blending and colour variation.
Burns & Wounds
Explore techniques for creating convincing burn textures, open wounds and blister effects. You’ll learn how to build dimension and use colour and blood to enhance the final result.
Finishing & Character Details
Bring your effects together by combining multiple injuries and adding the finishing touches that make an SFX look feel more believable.
You’ll also receive practical tips on photography, realism and creating camera-ready effects.

Morning Session
10:00 – 10:10 | Welcome & Introduction
Meet your instructor, learn more about Kryolan and get an overview of what you’ll create during the workshop.
10:10 – 11:00 | Live SFX Demonstration
Kiara will demonstrate professional SFX techniques covering:

Skin preparation and hygiene

Blood application
Texture and dimension
Realism and photography tips
Questions are encouraged throughout the demonstration.
11:00 – 11:15 | Refreshment Break

Now it’s your turn.
Recreate one or more of the demonstrated SFX looks while Kiara guides you through the process. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with the products, ask questions and receive individual guidance throughout the session.
